Conductor in Red

Monday mornings are the worst. Everybody is rushing to work and is energised after resting for the weekend. But it also means more traffic. Buses will be mixed with the smell of nice perfume and Sunday rice. But it’s one of the few times you can see neat looking students. Agberos are extra feisty because they have spent all their money on booze over the weekend so, there’s usually a lot more breaking of side mirrors on Monday mornings.

The bus I entered today looked like it was painted with rust. Worse still, it was tilted to one side. I had no option as there was no bus and I was running late.

The driver wanted the bus to be full before he moved so, he made us wait for over 30 minutes. I was just tired and sweaty inside one of those coaster buses that are extra tight cause of overloading. I actually think they carry more paseengers than those big ABC buses tbh. And I hadn’t even gotten to work yet.

Then the agbero came for his money and the conductor refused to give him. Must have been the conductor’s first day (even I knew that you shouldn’t mess with agberos on Mondays). I was just hearing insults flying…normal stuff. The next thing, punches and slaps, wow. Conductor was busy shouting “don’t allow me to deal with you!” while the agbero was busy throwing punches.

It’s just my first post and there was enough drama today. A crowd was trying to hold them back and the conductor was already bleeding… Baba looked like the result of a badly executed BDSM session.😭

As if it wasn’t bad enough, everyone in the bus started insulting the conductor, even the driver joined in🀣. Said the conductor was stupid for not winning the fight and that he would abandon him when they reached their destination. The passengers said that the conductor was an idiot because he wasted their time and still lost the fight🀣🀣. Lagosians are hilarious.

Maybe my Monday morning even went better than his after all.
