The rainy season is the period where one usually has the worst transport experiences because most public transport vehicles aren’t equipped to deal with the weather. This last Saturday was one of the most frustrating I’ve had in recent times. It was just like the universe was looking for a way to make me mad. Well, I had an early appointment (7:30 am) at Ajao Estate and I had spent the night on the Island so I definitely had to leave early. I was ready by 5:30 am but it was raining so, I had to wait for the rain to stop or calm down at least before leaving. Finally, I left by 6am.

The first thing that greeted me was the flood outside. The drainage on the island is so terrible, you could spit on the floor and a flood could start. I had white sneakers on๐Ÿ˜‚ so I had to remove them and walk through the flood and it wasn’t until I found a keke to enter that I decided to wear them back. Oh, and the rain had started dropping heavily again. I got to Obalende and was looking for Oshodi bus, when I realised that the keke had dropped me far from the bus stop so, I had to trek under the rain still before I found a bus.

This bus was terrible ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. The first thing that greeted me was the mosquitoes. Yes, there were mosquitoes in the bus. A lot. I actually thought that was the only problem so, I decided to persevere since I was already running late. Big mistake. When we started moving, I realised that the windows couldn’t close so, I was under the rain and inside the bus at the same time. Also, the area near the back tyre was rusty and there were a few holes there so, most of the dirt the tyre was rolling in, was entering the bus and splashing on me via those holes. I was just inside like:

Then, with the windows that were wide open, some cars would drive speedily and splash water on me from outside to the inside of the bus. See suffer. The only good thing was that I arrived early for my appointment. Dirty, but early.

As if I hadn’t suffered enough, going back home was worse. There were no buses because of the rain so, I had to enter one of these oversized white buses that look like BRT buses. I figured there would even be enough space at least. I definitely played myself. This bus was basically a Molue with high self esteem (I hope y’all remember Molue – those big ugly danfo buses that were always overcrowded). Initially, there was space when I sat down. The next thing I heard was, “if you wan pay for standing, enter”. Like one million people entered this bus๐Ÿ˜ญ. There was no space for me to even leave.

Honestly, if someone tried to fart in that bus, his butt won’t even see space to let it out. It was that bad. The worst part was the various smells that were wafting round the bus. It smelled like a kitchen that they were cooking body odour ๐Ÿคฎ. There were various odours ranging from boiling saliva, to one woman that smelled like raw meat, to someone that smelled like he tried to use mallam perfume to cover up his rotten fish smell. One woman kept complaining that one dude’s penis kept grazing her ear. My own was that someone put armpit over my head. I just drowned myself in music and good thoughts because I didn’t know what to do again. I was wet from the rain and my sweat๐Ÿ˜ญ.

But I got home safely. To Jesus be my glory ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
